Every athlete is different. Their goals, experience, learning style, physical development and reasons for playing are different too.
My coaching is tailored to the individual rather than built around a one-size-fits-all program.
Drawing on my experience as an FIH Level 3 coach, high-performance-level player and sports doctor, I combine hockey knowledge with sports science, athlete wellbeing and evidence-based research to help players understand their game, develop their skills and become more confident, independent athletes.
Whether you are an individual player looking for targeted development, a team wanting to take the next step, or an organisation looking for an engaging speaker, there are several ways we can work together.
Coaching built around you.
Where appropriate, I incorporate video analysis and individual development planning to help players understand not only what they need to improve, but how and why. Individual coaching may include:
Technical skill development
Position-specific coaching
Decision-making and game awareness
Ball carrying, passing, receiving & elimination skills
Goal-scoring and attacking skills
Defensive technique
Movement and physical preparation
Video analysis
Individual development plans
Confidence and performance strategies
Return-to-hockey support following injury
Ideal for junior and senior athletes who want focused coaching, additional development outside team training, preparation for trials or representative hockey, or support in taking their game to the next level.
Expert coaching, wherever you play.
You don't need to be in Tasmania to work with me. Virtual coaching allows players to access individual coaching, feedback and development support remotely. Using video, online consultation and structured development plans, we can analyse your game, identify priorities and build a clear plan for improvement.
Players can submit match or training footage for review, with sessions used to explore positioning, decision-making, technical execution and tactical understanding. Virtual coaching can include:
Individual video analysis
Match and training review
Technical feedback
Tactical and positional coaching
Individual development planning
Goal setting
Training recommendations
Strength, conditioning and load-management guidance
Follow-up coaching and progress reviews
Virtual coaching can also complement an athlete's existing club or representative program.
Ideal for athletes outside Tasmania, regional players, athletes wanting ongoing mentoring, or players who want detailed analysis of their game.
Better players, better teams.
Group sessions combine individual player development with the decision-making, communication and connections that make teams effective. Programs can be designed for small groups, specialist positional groups, club teams, development squads, schools or representative programs.
Rather than simply running athletes through drills, I aim to create training environments where players are challenged to recognise what is happening, make decisions and solve problems. Sessions can be tailored to your group's age, level and objectives and may include:
Technical skill development
Tactical concepts and game understanding
Attacking and defensive principles
Position-specific development
Small-group and unit coaching
Decision-making under pressure
Specialist skills sessions
Team communication
Physical preparation
Team culture and leadership
Junior-to-senior development
Representative preparation
Programs can range from a single specialist session through to a multi-week development program.
Ideal for hockey clubs, schools, junior programs, representative squads, small training groups and teams wanting targeted development.
Sport. Performance. Medicine. People.
My professional life has given me the opportunity to see performance and leadership from several very different perspectives.
I have competed in elite hockey, including the highest domestic competitions in the Netherlands and England; coached athletes from grassroots through to state representative level; worked in sports medicine; built and managed businesses; and worked extensively in healthcare, leadership and governance. Those experiences provide a broad perspective on what helps people perform, develop and thrive.
I am available for keynote presentations, conferences, workshops and sporting events, with presentations tailored to the audience.
Topics can include:
Developing the Whole Athlete
Why great coaching involves far more than technical ability — and how physical, psychological, social and cognitive development all influence performance.
What Medicine Taught Me About Coaching
Lessons from sports medicine, healthcare and athlete management that have shaped the way I coach.
High Performance Without Losing the Person
Creating environments where high expectations, wellbeing and enjoyment can coexist.
The Developing Athlete
Understanding growth, physical development, training load, injury risk and the particular demands placed on young athletes.
Coaching the Individual
Why athletes learn differently and how adaptable, neuro-inclusive coaching can improve both development and performance.
From Player to Coach
Lessons from competing at elite level in Australia, the Netherlands and England — and how experiencing the game as a player influences the way I coach.
Building Better Sporting Environments
Player development, communication, culture, inclusion, retention and creating pathways that keep people engaged in sport.
Presentations can be tailored for coaches, athletes, parents, clubs, schools, sporting organisations, healthcare professionals and conferences.
Not Sure Which Option Is Right for You?
That's completely fine.
Tell me a little about the athlete, team or organisation, what you are hoping to achieve and where you are currently at. From there, we can work out the coaching or presentation format that best suits your needs.
